Case 5: Rained Out

The Crime:
This case takes place on the northwest side of Detroit. The Detroit Police
Department responded to the area of a accident, a car ran over the medium and struck several trees. The roads were very wet from the heavy down pour on this morning. Upon they’re arrival they discovered a unknown black male with gun shot wounds on the passenger side of the car, the driver door was open and appears the driver escaped. Several 911 calls states that the driver was hiding in the bushes, near the location. The driver was never found. The victim was transferred a Detroit Hospital where he was pronounced (D.O.A) dead upon arrival.
Police Investigation:
Police talked to the family, members and friends and found that a family friend was with the victim. The friend told the family that they were over another person house when a car pulled up and produced a gun, he knew the driver of the car, and he began shooting. Mr. Innocent, the family friend, then says that our client began shooting and striking the victim on the passenger seat from a car. They drove and he crashed the vehicle because rode’s were slick from the rain.

SPI Investigation
SPI spoke to several people and found out the friend had came back to the scene with a young lady who he called to come pick he up. He and her gave the police the wrong names when they were at the crime scene. We brought all this up to the attorney and also looking through the discovery we found that the friend states that our client was driving a car and they were in a truck and they did not plan to be at the location, so how did our client know where they were?

The Trial
The jury was picked and the trial went on. The witness (Mr. Innocent) story did not jive, the family began to look at him as a suspect. It became obvious to the jury and family that he was lying. The jury came back within ten minutes with a not guilty. Mr. Innocent is now on the run from the family.
