Case 1: Who’s on First? What’s on Second?

The Crime:
On April 2008, Jamel Shaw was locked up for the stabbing death of Byron Reynolds. Byron was found in his Detroit home, in the area of Warren and Southfield in March 2008, bludgeoned and stabbed 46 times. During the attack Byron’s phone was stolen...

DPD Investigation:

One of Byron's cousins called the phone and a man answered the phone. The cousin began making the man on the other end believe she was interested in him and he proceeded to give her his name, a possible place of employment and a picture of himself. The caller gave the name Jay to the cousin at which time she turned the information over to the police. The police asked if she knew anyone named Jay and she said Jamel, which was a friend of the deceased. Without further investigations authorities arrested Jamel. After hours of interrogation Jamel signed a confession stating he killed Byron in self-defense, and then he was charged with murder.

SPI findings:

The family’s attorney hired our firm Armorbearer Investigations to oversee the case. As part of our investigation we went out and canvassed the area, spoke with possible witnesses, relatives and looked for any possible place of employment. Our firm went to the second place of employment and sure enough it was the guy who sent the picture. The attorney turned in the findings of Armorbearer Investigation to police and prosecutors.

The Verdict:

In December 2008 Mr. Shaw was proven innocent and released from custody.
